How to Extend a Visa on Arrival in Indonesia: Online Step, Office Visit, Fee
Short answer
You can extend a visa on arrival once, for 30 more days, for Rp500,000. Apply on evisa.imigrasi.go.id from 14 days before your permit ends, then attend an appointment at the immigration office for your address for photo, fingerprints and a short interview. Start at least seven working days before your last day — public holidays not counted — so the office visit and processing fit.

- Rp500,000

Who can extend
| Entry type | Can you extend? |
|---|---|
| Visa on arrival or e-VOA (B1) | Yes, once, by 30 days |
| Visa exemption (A1) | No |
| C1 tourist e-visa | Yes, in 60-day steps up to 180 days |
If you entered visa-free and want to stay longer, the only option is to leave Indonesia before day 30 and come back on a new entry.
Timing
- The window opens 14 days before your permit ends. Applications before that are not accepted.
- Apply before your last day. Immigration says you are not treated as overstaying if the fee is paid before the permit expires.
- Processing takes up to three working days after payment, and the office appointment is usually offered within about two working days.
- Weekends and public holidays do not count. Around Nyepi, Eid and Christmas, offices close for several days.
In practice: start on the day the window opens, and no later than seven working days before your last day. Around long holidays such as Nyepi, Eid or Christmas, start earlier still. Our visa stay checker gives you both dates.
Step by step
1. Apply online. On evisa.imigrasi.go.id, choose Extend My Visa if you have an e-VOA. If you bought your VOA at the airport counter, use Find Existing Stay Permit first to link it to an account. Upload your passport and a photo, enter your address in Indonesia, and pay Rp500,000 by card.
2. Get your appointment. Since 29 May 2025 every extension requires a visit to the immigration office responsible for your address, for photo and fingerprints (biometrics) and a short interview. The office is assigned automatically from the address you enter.
3. Attend the office. Bring your passport, the printed or on-screen application, and dress as you would for a government office (covered shoulders and knees). The interview is short: where you are staying, how long, why.
4. Check the result. Follow the status in your e-Visa account and save a copy of the approved extension with your passport documents. The extra 30 days start the day after your first 30 end.
Elderly travellers, people with disabilities, pregnant or breastfeeding women and urgent cases can use a walk-in route instead of the normal appointment.
Bali immigration offices
In April 2026 Bali immigration confirmed that the office is assigned by your address. Bali now has five: Ngurah Rai (Jimbaran), Denpasar (Renon), Tabanan and Klungkung (both opened in November 2025) and Singaraja in the north. The office the e-Visa system assigns to you is the one that counts — you cannot pick a quieter one.
Agents and “no office visit” offers
Visa agents can file the online part for you, which is legal and sometimes convenient. They cannot skip the biometrics appointment; any offer of a guaranteed approval without an office visit conflicts with the current rule. The official fee is Rp500,000. In 2026 Indonesia’s anti-corruption agency charged senior immigration officials over alleged extra payments demanded from foreigners for stay-permit approvals — pay official fees through the official portal, and get a receipt for anything else.
If you miss the deadline
You will pay the overstay fine of Rp1,000,000 per day when you leave, and long overstays can lead to deportation and an entry ban. Do not try to extend after expiry; go to the immigration office or the airport and settle it.
