Which Indonesia Tourist Visa Do You Need? Visa-Free, VOA or C1

Short answer

It depends on your passport and how long you stay. Up to 30 days: visa-free if you hold one of 19 exempt passports, otherwise a Rp500,000 visa on arrival. 31–60 days: a visa on arrival plus one extension. 61–180 days: the C1 tourist e-visa (Rp1,000,000, applied for before travel), extended in 60-day steps.

Visa-free passports (since 9 July 2026)

Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, plus Timor-Leste, Suriname, Colombia, Hong Kong, Macau, Brazil, Peru, Türkiye, Kazakhstan and Belarus. Kazakhstan, Macau and Belarus were added by Permenimipas 10/2026.

Visa-free entry cannot be extended or converted. If a 30-day trip might turn into 35 days, enter on a visa on arrival instead — even with an exempt passport, if your nationality is also on the VOA list.

Reports of visa-free access for Australia and other countries were a ministry idea in June 2026, not a rule.

Choosing by trip length

Up to 30 days. Exempt passport: nothing to buy. Everyone else: an e-VOA bought online before the flight.

31 to 60 days. A VOA, then one extension in Indonesia. The extension costs Rp500,000 and needs an online application plus an appointment at an immigration office for photo and fingerprints — plan half a day for it. How it works: extending a visa on arrival.

61 to 180 days. The C1 tourist e-visa. You apply on evisa.imigrasi.go.id before travel with a bank statement showing at least US$2,000 over the last three months. Most nationalities no longer need a sponsor. You get 60 days, then extend; Immigration lists a 60-day stay permit extension at Rp2,000,000.

Several trips a year. The D1 multiple-entry visa allows up to 60 days per visit over one, two or five years. At Rp3,000,000 for one year it costs as much as six visas on arrival, so it pays off for people who visit often or want 60-day visits without the extension appointment — not for one or two holidays.

Things that change your answer

  • Remote work. None of these visas permit work for an Indonesian employer or selling to Indonesian clients. Remote work has its own visa category, outside the scope of this guide.
  • Bali. The visa is the same as for the rest of Indonesia, but Bali adds a Rp150,000 tourist levy.
  • Fees. An increase of the VOA to Rp750,000 (online) and Rp1,000,000 (counter) was announced in August 2026 without a start date. Official pages still show Rp500,000.
