Indonesia Visa on Arrival and e-VOA: Fee, Rules and How to Apply

Short answer

Most visitors who are not from a visa-exempt country need a visa on arrival (B1): Rp500,000 for 30 days, extendable once by another 30. Buy it online as an e-VOA up to 14 days before you fly, or at the airport counter after landing. A rise to Rp750,000 online and Rp1,000,000 at the counter was announced in August 2026 but has not taken effect.

Who needs a visa on arrival

Three groups of visitors:

  1. Visa-exempt passports — the nine other ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam), Timor-Leste, Suriname, Colombia, Hong Kong, Macau, Brazil, Peru, Türkiye, Kazakhstan and Belarus (19 in total since July 2026). They enter free for 30 days and need no VOA, unless they might stay longer: the exemption cannot be extended, a VOA can.
  2. VOA-eligible passports — the large middle group, including the EU countries, the UK, Switzerland, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, China and India. They need a VOA (or another visa) for a tourist trip. Immigration’s own country lists currently show between 87 and 97 entries depending on the page, so check yours on the official list rather than trusting a number.
  3. Everyone else applies for a visa in advance through the e-Visa portal, sometimes with a sponsor.

The announced fee rise

On 12 August 2026 the Director General of Immigration announced tiered fees: Rp750,000 for the e-VOA and Rp1,000,000 at the airport counter. No regulation and no start date has been published, and in July the tourism minister had said there were no plans to raise fees. On 4 November 2026 both official immigration pages still list Rp500,000.

What this means for you: the e-VOA is very unlikely to become the more expensive option, so buying online is the safe choice either way. We will update this page the day the new fee appears on the official pages.

The e-VOA page says you can file for up to five people at once, but every traveller — including a baby with their own passport — gets a separate visa and pays the full fee.

How to apply online

  1. Go to evisa.imigrasi.go.id (check the address — sponsored lookalikes rank above it) and choose Visa on Arrival.
  2. Enter your passport details and upload a passport photo page scan and a recent face photo.
  3. Pay by card within 120 minutes. The card does not need to be in the traveller’s name. There are no refunds.
  4. The e-VOA arrives by email as a PDF. Save it to your phone.
  5. Three days before landing, fill in the free All Indonesia arrival card and enter the e-VOA number.

Official processing times are not published. Most applications are approved well within a few days, but do not leave it to the departure lounge.

Requirements officers can check

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival, with two blank pages.
  • A return or onward ticket to another country. The B1 rules list it as a requirement; airlines may refuse boarding without it.
  • For Bali: the separate Rp150,000 tourist levy.

Overstaying

Every day past your last legal day costs Rp1,000,000, paid at the airport before you can leave. Longer overstays can mean detention, deportation and an entry ban. Missing a flight because of the fine payment queue is a common follow-on cost. If you might stay longer, extend in time — the extension window opens 14 days before your permit ends.

Questions travellers ask

Is the Indonesia visa on arrival single or multiple entry?

Single entry. Leaving Indonesia ends it, even if days are left. For several trips, buy a new VOA each time or look at the D1 multiple-entry visa.

What documents do I need for the visa on arrival?

A passport valid for at least six months from arrival, a return or onward ticket, and a card to pay. For the e-VOA you also upload a passport photo page scan and a recent photo.

When should I apply for the e-VOA?

The official page allows applications up to 14 days before travel and recommends at least 48 hours ahead. Unused, the e-VOA must be used to enter within 90 days of being issued.

How long can I stay in Indonesia as a tourist?

30 days on a visa on arrival or visa exemption, 60 days if you extend a visa on arrival once, and up to 180 days on the C1 tourist e-visa. The day you arrive counts as day one.

What happens if I overstay?

You pay Rp1,000,000 for every day over, at the airport before you can leave. Long overstays can lead to detention, deportation and an entry ban.
