Emergency Numbers in Indonesia: 112, Police, Ambulance and Bali Tourist Police
Short answer
Call 112 first — it is free from any phone, but it does not yet work in every region. If it does not connect, use the direct lines: police 110, ambulance 118 or 119, fire 113, search and rescue 115. In Bali, the tourist police are on (0361) 759 687.

| 110 | Police | Nationwide |
| 118 | Ambulance | Also used for rescue |
| 119 | Medical emergency (Ministry of Health line) | Use if 118 does not answer |
| 113 | Fire | The UK Foreign Office lists fire as 112; 113 is the direct line |
| 115 | Search and rescue (Basarnas) | Missing hikers, boats, divers, people at sea |
| (0361) 759 687 | Bali tourist police | English usually available |

Save these in your phone before you land, together with your hotel’s number and your insurer’s 24-hour line.
Why 112 is not always enough
112 is Indonesia’s single emergency number, but each regency has to set up its own call centre. The Ministry of Communication reported 112 active in 141 regencies and cities in March 2025, out of more than 500. Bali’s main areas and the big cities are covered; smaller islands and rural districts may not be. If 112 rings out, call the direct number for the service you need.
Can you call from a tourist eSIM?
Most travel eSIMs are data-only and cannot place normal calls, including to 112. Keep your home SIM active in a second slot, or know that your hotel, a shop or any bystander can call for you. Calling the hotel reception is often the fastest way to get an ambulance to the right address anyway.
What actually works in a medical emergency
In Bali, private hospitals with emergency departments — for example in Denpasar, Kuta, Jimbaran, Sanur and Ubud — often send their own ambulance faster than the public service. Call the hospital directly if you know which one you want, then call your insurer’s assistance line so they can confirm cover with the hospital. Expect to be asked for a deposit or a guarantee of payment before treatment.
For anything far from a city — a dive accident, a fall on a volcano trek, a boat in trouble — 115 (Basarnas) is the right number.
Your embassy
Embassies help with lost passports, arrests and serious incidents, but they do not pay hospital or evacuation bills. Look up your own embassy or consulate number in your government’s travel advice for Indonesia and save it. UK nationals can reach the FCDO in London 24 hours a day on +44 20 7008 5000.
If you lose your passport
Report it to the police first (110, or the nearest Polsek station) and ask for a police report (surat keterangan kehilangan). Your embassy needs it to issue an emergency travel document, and immigration needs it to transfer your stay permit.
