Bali Airport to Canggu: Grab, Taxi or Transfer — and the Traffic Problem

Short answer

Canggu is 21 km from the airport, 40–60 minutes off-peak and up to two and a half hours in the late-afternoon jam. A standard app car cost Rp185,000–218,000 in our dated check; Bluebird's fixed fare was Rp196,000. The money barely differs — what matters is when you land and how close a car can get to your villa.

Quotes from the airport to Aston Canggu Beach Resort (Batu Bolong), taken in the apps on 10 May 2026, 07:02–07:20 Bali time — early morning, no rain. Grab showed a Rp20,000 promo already applied; the normal Grab price was Rp20,000 higher. Peak hours, rain and holidays push app prices up.

All three apps landed within Rp33,000 of each other for a standard car. Treat the gap as noise: at peak times and in rain, travellers report Canggu airport fares from about Rp250,000 to well over Rp500,000, because demand jumps and drivers avoid the jam.

Why the clock matters more than the app

The distance is short; the last five kilometres are the problem. Canggu’s roads were village lanes a few years ago and have not been widened at the pace villas were built. The connection between Jalan Raya Canggu and Pantai Berawa is the classic choke point, and planned traffic fixes stalled again in mid-2026.

Estimates, based on route data and recent traveller reports:

You land and leave the airportExpect
Before 11:0040–60 minutes
11:00–15:0050–75 minutes
15:00–19:3075–150 minutes
After 21:0040–50 minutes

If you can choose your flight, an arrival before lunch or after 21:00 saves you an hour of sitting still.

Batu Bolong, Berawa or Pererenan?

“Canggu” is a spread of several villages, and the drive time depends on which one:

  • Berawa is the first part you reach from the airport side.
  • Batu Bolong (Old Man’s, the main café strip) is in the middle and the most congested in the evening.
  • Pererenan lies further west; so add time — roughly 10–20 minutes by our estimate.

Put your exact villa pin into the app, not “Canggu”. Many villas sit on narrow lanes (gang) where a car cannot enter. Ask your host where cars stop and how far the walk is — and whether someone can meet you with a scooter for the bags.

The right car

Grab’s standard airport car is rated for four people and 60 kg of luggage. Surfboards do not fit; neither do four people with four big cases. For either, book a transfer with a van in advance. A driver also helps here for the simple reason that he knows which lane leads to which villa.

Leaving Canggu for the airport

Allow at least an hour and a half in the afternoon, two hours on a Friday, plus your airport time. Grab and Gojek pickups in Canggu generally work; if a driver cancels repeatedly, ask your accommodation for a driver instead.
