Bali Airport Taxi, Grab and Gojek: Pickup Points, Real Prices and Late Arrivals
Short answer
Grab and Gojek both work at Bali airport. After customs, open the app, choose an airport car (GrabCar Airport or GoCar) and follow the in-app directions to the pickup lounge — motorbike rides are not available for airport pickups. In our dated checks the apps cost about the same as a MyBluebird fixed fare for longer routes, but more than double the taxi for short hops to Kuta.
- Airport app rides
- Cars only, no motorbikes
- To Seminyak (app, May 2026)
- Rp115k–136k
- To Ubud (app, May 2026)
- Rp338k–378k
- Airport parking fee
- Rp12,000 first hour
Your four ways out of the airport
| Option | How it works | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grab or Gojek | Book in the app after customs, walk to the app pickup point | Solo travellers and couples with normal luggage, daytime | You need mobile data; the walk to the pickup point |
| Airport taxi counter | Fixed fare by destination zone, paid at the counter in arrivals | Leaving without thinking, any hour | Prices are not published online — ask before you pay |
| MyBluebird | Bluebird’s own app, metered or fixed price | Comparing against Grab; short routes | Check the car is a real Bluebird (bird on the roof sign, fleet number) |
| Pre-booked transfer | Driver waits in arrivals with your name | Late arrivals, families, surfboards, Ubud | Costs more; book a day ahead |
Ride-hailing is legal in Bali. A new provincial transport regulation that would have required tourism drivers to hold Bali ID cards was stripped of that chapter by the Home Affairs Ministry in July 2026; the remaining law was still waiting for the governor’s signature in early November. Nothing in force stops you booking Grab or Gojek from the airport.
Prices to seven areas, checked in the apps
We opened MyBluebird, Grab and Gojek in the international arrivals area on the morning of 10 May 2026 and requested the same destination in each app within a few minutes. These are the standard-car prices; the route pages show all categories and the original screenshots.
| To | Distance | MyBluebird fixed | GrabCar Airport | GoCar | Off-peak drive |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kuta | 5 km | Rp44,000 | Rp106,500 | Rp119,500 | 10–20 min |
| Seminyak | 12 km | Rp117,000 | Rp136,000 | Rp115,000 | 25–40 min |
| Nusa Dua | 13 km | Rp123,000 | Rp128,000 | Rp148,500 | 20–30 min |
| Sanur | 17 km | Rp151,000 | Rp148,000 | Rp180,000 | 25–35 min |
| Canggu | 21 km | Rp196,000 | Rp185,000 | Rp218,000 | 40–60 min |
| Uluwatu | 21 km | Rp202,000 | Rp206,000 | Rp232,500 | 45–60 min |
| Ubud | 35 km | Rp351,000 | Rp338,500 | Rp378,000 | 60–90 min |
What the numbers say:
- For Kuta and Legian, the app is the expensive option. In our check MyBluebird cost less than half the Grab or Gojek airport fare.
- From Seminyak outward, all three land within about 20% of each other. Pick the one with the shortest wait and the right car size, not the cheapest line.
- Grab showed a Rp20,000 promo on every quote; without it, Grab was Rp20,000 higher than listed.
- These were early-morning prices on a dry day. Late afternoon, rain, Friday evenings and holidays raise app prices and stretch drive times. Distances are road kilometres from the terminal.
Where Grab and Gojek pick you up
Grab. Grab’s official DPS page sends international arrivals to the GrabCar Lounge International Arrival Terminal. In the app, choose a GrabCar Airport category (Economy, Plus, Premium or Electric); GrabCar Airport is rated for up to four passengers and 60 kg of luggage. GrabBike is not available for airport pickups. The app shows the walking route — follow it rather than a blog’s description — published descriptions of the route disagree with each other.
Gojek. Choose GoCar, enter your destination and terminal, then confirm the Instant Point the app offers. Gojek’s ground staff at the pickup point assign you a car. Gojek has published an airport promo code (GOBANDARA) in the past; try it, but do not count on it.
What to do in order:
- Clear immigration and customs (show your arrival card QR code).
- Get online before you leave the building — a travel eSIM installed at home is the easy way; airport Wi-Fi works while you stand still.
- Open both apps, compare price and waiting time, book one.
- Walk to the pickup point. Match the plate number and driver name before you load bags.
Going to Uluwatu or the Bukit
Uluwatu is only 21 km away but the slowest short route on the island: the road narrows at Jimbaran and Pecatu, and since July 2026 a permanent one-way and turn-restriction scheme around Pecatu applies in the evenings (reported as roughly 17:00–22:00), when everyone drives to the sunset spots. Land before mid-afternoon and the drive is about 45–60 minutes; land at 17:00 and plan for 90. Villas on the cliffs often sit down steep lanes — send the driver your exact map pin, and with surfboards book a pre-arranged transfer — standard airport cars are not built for boards.
Extras on top of the fare
- Airport parking/entry: cars pay Rp12,000 for the first hour since September 2024. Grab says its airport fare does not include tolls and parking; in practice it is either in the app price or the driver asks for it — ask before you leave.
- Bali Mandara toll road: Rp14,000 per car. It is only on the natural route to Nusa Dua and, optionally, Sanur. A driver asking about it on those routes is normal; on the way to Ubud, Canggu or Seminyak there is no toll.
- Tips: not expected for app rides. Rounding up for help with heavy bags is appreciated.
Arriving late at night
After a long-haul flight landing at 23:00 the trade-offs change, even if the apps still show cars:
- Ubud, Canggu and the Bukit are a long drive at night on dark roads. A pre-booked transfer removes the pickup hunt; the driver waits whatever the immigration queue does.
- Sleeping near the airport is often smarter. The Novotel Bali Ngurah Rai Airport is inside the airport compound, a 5–10 minute walk from the terminals, and Tuban and Kuta are ten minutes away. Continue to Ubud the next morning in daylight.
- Nyepi (the Balinese Day of Silence, in March) closes the airport completely for 24 hours — in 2026 from 06:00 on 19 March to 06:00 on 20 March. No arrivals, no departures, no taxis. Check the date before you book.
Fake drivers and touts
Inside the arrivals hall, people will offer “taxi?” before you reach the exit. Some are legitimate drivers, many are not. Book in an app or at the counter, and never let anyone take your bags before you have agreed who is driving and for how much. Bluebird is copied often: the real cars are light blue with a bird on the roof sign, a fleet number on the side and a driver ID card on the dashboard.
